Vikings Fall To Dayton, 4-1

DAYTON, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's soccer team dropped its first road match of the season on Wednesday, falling at Dayton, 4-1.

The Vikings fall to 0-2 this season, while the Flyers improved to 2-1.

The first half saw Dayton take charge. After a UD corner kick in the 15th minute, Amass Amankona netted his first goal of the season on an assist from both Tommy Harr and Maik Schoonderwoerd to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Following Amankona's goal, Dayton struck again just over three minutes later and doubled its lead as Michael Frasca found the left corner of the net unassisted.

Despite six first half shots, five of which came from Sergio Manesio and the other from Gianluca DiFranco, the Vikings were unable to get on the board and the score remained 2-0 into the break.

Much to the Vikings displeasure, the second half unfolded similar to the first. The Flyers lead was extended to 3-0 in the 55th minute of play as this time it was Amankona with the assist on a cross to James Haupt who headed home his first goal of the season. 22 minutes later, UD took a commanding 4-0 lead in the 77th minute on a 25 yard strike from Carlos Sendin.

CSU was able to get on the board, though, after freshman Antonio Burgoa scored his first collegiate goal from 25 yards out, unassisted in the 83rd minute. Burgoa made his Viking debut just three minutes prior. Freshman Adrian Medina also made his debut in green and white, subbing in for Alvaro Pichardo in the 88th minute.

Nick Ciraldo completed all 90 minutes in goal for CSU, making two saves.

Cleveland State will continue its current roadtrip this Sunday (Sept. 6) at Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Duquesne Invitational next weekend where the Vikings will play Cornell (Sept. 11) and Duquesne (Sept. 13).
