Men's Soccer Moves on to Semifinals in the Horizon League Championship

CLEVELAND, OH – The Vikings faced off in a big game against Valparaiso Monday evening in the first round of the Horizon League Championship at Krenzler Field.

The Vikings moved on as they beat Valparaiso, which was decided by penalty kicks (4-3).

The teams played two scoreless halves and two 10 minute overtime sessions, sending them into a shootout.

Nick Ciraldo came in clutch by saving four out of the seven penalty kicks. Mike Derezic, Alec Nagucki, Christian Arboleda, and Kevin Blackwood all scored in the shootout for the Vikings.

Valparaiso had the advantage in shots, 12-9, but CSU held the advantage in corner kicks, 9-6. Nick Ciraldo was in net for the Vikings and had three saves with the win.

The Vikings will move onto the semifinals as they face #1 seed Oakland on Thursday (Nov. 13) at Oakland Soccer Field at 7 p.m.
