Vikings Fall in Regular Season Finale

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sergio Manesio scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, but Green Bay used a pair of goals midway through the first half to claim a 2-1 win over the Vikings in the regular season finale on Friday night at Krenzler Field.

The Vikings finish the regular season with a 6-11 overall record and 4-4 in the Horizon League, while Green Bay improved to 6-9-3 overall and 2-5-1 in the league.

The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead at the 23:23 mark when Sidney McClain netted his first goal of the season off a Tyler Swanner assist. McClain added his second goal of the match less than three minutes later, taking a cross from Audi Jepson and scoring to the far post.

It would stay that way until the 33:18 mark of the first half when Manesio took a pass from Mike Derezic and beat the Phoenix goalkeeper to the far post.

The Vikings, who played the final 18 minutes of the match a man up after a Green Bay red card, had a few quality chances to tie the match, but could not capitalize. A Derezic header with just under a minute to play from point blank range was saved by the Phoenix keeper to keep Green Bay ahead.

The Vikings will now wait to see where they will begin the Horzion League Championship. First round games are on Monday (Nov. 10) night.
