Matlock Tallies Goal in Setback at #18 California

BERKELEY, Calif. – Mike Matlock scored his first goal of the season, but Cleveland State dropped a 6-1 contest at 18th-ranked California on Friday afternoon.

CSU fell to 2-3 while California improved to a 2-1 record.

Cal scored two quick goals just under 20 minutes into the game, both coming by Stefano Bonomo with assists from Connor Hallisey, Joshua Morton and Jose Garcia-Carrera and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Bears added four second half goals, including two from Hallisey and another from Bonomo who finished with three goals.

Mike Matlock scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Alvaro Pichardo in the final minute of the game to put the Vikings on the board. Pichardo worked his way into the box and slid a pass to Matlock who tapped it in.

The Bears outshot CSU 18-7, while Nick Ciraldo made seven saves for the Vikings.

The Vikings are back in action Sunday (Sept. 14) when CSU plays at Sacramento St. at 4:00 p.m. EST.
