Manesio Nets Goal in 4-1 Loss at Wake Forest

SALEM, N.C. - Sergio Manesio scored a goal to bring Cleveland State within 2-1, but Wake Forest used two late goals to pull away for a 4-1 victory over the Vikings on Sunday night at Spry Stadium.

CSU fell to 2-2 this year while Wake Forest improved to a 2-2 record.

Wake Forest struck first at the 32:31 mark with a successful penalty kick by Michael Gamble. It was Gamble's first goal of the season.

Wake Forest added to their lead nine minutes into the second half with a Hank Gauger goal, assisted by Michael Gamble and Ian Harkes. It was Gauger's second goal of the season.

Cleveland State battled back with Manesio's second goal of the season at the 65:12 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1. Manesio took a rebound and beat the goalkeeper to the left from about 20 yards out.

However, Wake's Ricky Greensfelder and Jacori Hayes sealed the deal with two late goals that extended their lead to 4-1.

The Demon Decon's outshot CSU 24-4, while Nick Ciraldo had 12 saves for the Vikings.

The Vikings are back in action Friday (Sept. 12) when CSU plays at California at 4:00 p.m. EST.
