Vikings Win at Marshall, 2-0

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Hesham Hammouda scored a goal and assisted on another to help Cleveland State to a 2-0 win at Marshall on Sunday afternoon.

The Vikings improved to 2-0 on the young season, while Marshall fell to 0-1-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Vikings took a 1-0 lead at the 60:58 mark when Hammouda sent a cross into the box that freshman Kareem Banton finished to the near post. It was the first goal of Banton's young career.

Hammouda then sealed the win with a free kick from the left side with five minutes to play, giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

CSU held a 9-6 advantage in shots, while Marshall took eight corner kicks to CSU's four.

Nick Ciraldo made three saves for the Vikings, earning the shutout.

CSU will return to action next weekend with two matches in North Carolina. The Vikings will play at N.C. State on Friday (Sept. 5) at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Wake Forest for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Sunday (Sept. 7).
