Vikings Shut Out St. Francis (Pa.), 2-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's soccer team a goal in each half and defeated St. Francis (Pa.), 2-0, in an exhibition match on Saturday afternoon at Krenzler Field.

CSU finishes the preseason with a 1-0-1 mark, following a 1-1 draw with Lake Erie on Wednesday.

Mike Matlock got the Vikings on the board at the 27:23 mark of the first half when he knocked in a cross from Mike Derezic on a free kick from just outside the box on the left wing.

Freshman Kareem Banton made it 2-0 in the 64th minute with a goal off assists from Silvester Messiah and Colin Eedy.

Nick Ciraldo played the first 78 minutes in goal for CSU, making three saves, while Aleksander Drobac was in goal for the final 12 minutes. He did not face any shots.

Both teams attempted eight shots.

The Vikings open the 2014 regular season on Friday (Aug. 29) when CSU hosts Salem International at 3:30 p.m. at Krenzler Field. It will be a doubleheader with the CSU women hosting Western Michigan at 7:00 p.m.
