Cleveland, Ohio- Two second half goals turned out to be the difference Tuesday night as the Cleveland State Vikings took down Duquesne 2-0 on the road to improve to 4-3-0 on the season.

The two teams were even for much of the contest until an Aaron Adkins goal off a pass from Christian Arboleda in the 78th minute put the Vikings on top for good. Adkins was a force all night as he not only scored the goal to put CSU ahead, he was also able to keep pressure on the Duquesne defense all game long, tallying five shot attempts, with four of them on goal.

"Right now Aaron is starting to hit his stride as we approach league play," said Head Coach Ali Kazemaini on the senior forward. "For a goal scorer you need confidence and he's a scorer, we're happy he can get a goal right now. "

The Cleveland State offense wasn't done with the late game fireworks as a goal just eight minutes later by defender Zach Ellis-Hayden found the back of the net off a pass from Tommy Fitzgerald to give the Vikings the 2-0 lead and win.

The two goals swung the game CSU's way despite the road team being out-shot 16-14, out-shot on goal 7-6, and ending the game at a 4-1 corner kick disadvantage.

The CSU defense, including senior goalie Brad Stuver with seven saves, helped to fight off those shot attempts and keep the opponent held down to zero goals, something they have now done three times this season.

For the group as a whole this was a nice bounce back game after a tough 1-0 loss to Bowling Green over the weekend. 

"We had a pretty solid effort tonight, everyone wanted to redeem themselves," Kazemaini said. "We were focused not to give up anything and got a full team effort."

The Vikings will be looking to keep their winning ways going as the team opens up Horizon League play on the road Saturday afternoon at Detroit.
