Cleveland State Lacrosse Falls at Bellarmine, 14-9

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (7-6, 4-3) were downed by Bellarmine (9-5, 5-2) 14-9 on Saturday afternoon in ASUN action.

Cleveland State started the scoring with a man-up goal at the 10:45 mark as Thomas Chevalier scored off a feed from Gavin Held. A minute later, Alex Van Voorhis doubled the margin with an unassisted goal.

Amiri Austin capped off the strong start with a goal off a feed from Van Voorhis to lead 3-0 with 3:58 to go in the first quarter. Bellarmine tallied their lone goal with 1:16 remaining to trail 3-1 after the first quarter of play.

The Knights pulled to within one after scoring an unassisted goal as just 1:20 came off the clock. The Vikings answered back with three straight goals to extend their advantage to 6-2 with 7:44 left in the first half. Cole Pollard started the scoring before Held netted the next two including a man-up tally.

Bellarmine came right back with three unanswered goals to pull within one with 4:19 left in the half. Connor Zwagerman netted a goal with 20 seconds showing off an assist from Austin to lead 7-5 at halftime.

After trading goals to start the third, Bellarmine ran off six consecutive goals to lead 12-8 with one quarter left in the contest.

Cleveland State started the fourth with a man-up goal from Wyatt Robertson off a pass from Pollard to trail by four with 13:22 left in the contest. The final two goals of the game went to the home team, as the Green and White fell 14-9.

Van Voorhis led the attack with four points on a goal and three assists.

Reggie Regala picked up a team-best three ground balls and Evan Moskwa went 12-of-15 in the faceoff circle.

Connor Kernan made 11 saves in goal for the Vikings.

The Vikings will play their final home game of the season on Saturday, April 20 at noon against Utah.
