Cleveland State Lacrosse Defeats RMU 13-6, Extending Win Streak to a Program-Best Four

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (5-3, 2-0) won a program-record fourth straight game on Saturday, defeating Robert Morris (2-6, 1-2) at home 13-6.

Michael Care found the back of the net a minute into a game off a feed from Gavin Held to lead 1-0. Robert Morris didn't break through until 30 seconds left in the period to draw even at one.

Cleveland State pitched a shutout in the second quarter while scoring three times to lead 4-1 at halftime. Wyatt Robertson, Gavin Held, and Parker Yearego were the goal scorers. The defensive shutout in the quarter was the third of the season.

The Colonials clawed to within two at the 10:54 mark, but back-to-back goals by Yearego extended the advantage to 6-2 with 10:10 showing on the clock.

Robert Morris tallied a man-up goal with 6:27 remaining, but the Green and White answered as Chris Anderson scored 42 seconds later off a pass from Will Adair. Following an RMU goal, Amiri Austin and Dylan Tomarchio each scored to give Cleveland State a 9-4 advantage with one quarter left in regulation.

The Vikings accounted for the first three goals of the fourth quarter to lead 12-4 with 2:49 showing on the clock. Yearego started the scoring with an unassisted goal before helping on the next one for Held. Connor Zwagerman capped off the run with an unassisted tally.

The Colonials bagged the next two goals to trail by six with 1:07 remaining. For the second straight game, Austin capped the scoring with an empty net goal with 29 ticks left as the Green and White won their fourth straight game, 13-6.

Connor Kernan moved to 4-0 in goal this season after making 11 saves and picking up four ground balls. Griffin Valli also scooped up four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Charlie Williams won a team-best five faceoffs.

Yearego put up a season-best six points on four goals and two assists. He now has two hat-tricks on the year.

Cleveland State will look for its fifth straight victory on Wednesday, March 27 as they travel to Jacksonville for a noon faceoff.
