Cleveland State Suffers 11-6 Setback at Robert Morris in ASUN Action

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Cleveland State (3-3, 1-1) had its three-game winning streak end on Saturday afternoon against Robert Morris (4-3, 1-1), 11-6.

Robert Morris nabbed the first lead of the game as Will MacLeod scored with 8:19 remaining in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, Ryan Haigh evened the game off a feed from Xander Johnson.

The Colonials regained the advantage with 6:20 left and tacked on a third goal with 29 seconds remaining to lead 3-1.

RMU extended the margin to 4-1 as the home team found the back of the net with 12:50 showing in the second quarter. A man-up goal by Michael Care off a pass from Brendan Sigurdson cut the deficit to 4-2 with 5:33 remaining in the half.

Amiri Austin made it a one-goal game with an unassisted tally at the 3:34 mark as the Green and White trailed 4-3 at halftime.

Robert Morris tallied the first two goals of the third quarter to make it 6-3 with 4:49 remaining in the frame. Gannon Matthews netted an unassisted goal with three minutes left to get within 6-4.

A man-up goal by Gavin Held off an assist from Matthews made it a one-goal game with one quarter remaining in regulation.

The Colonials found the back of the net twice in the first 26 seconds of the final quarter to extend the margin to 8-5. Held bagged his second man-up goal of the game off a pass from Sigurdson to get within 8-6 with 11:00 to go in regulation.

RMU ran off three unanswered goals down the stretch to snap the Green and White's three-game winning streak, 11-6.

Cameron Logan made 12 saves on the afternoon, giving him the new program record for career saves with 240. The previous record of 239 was held by Caleb Espinoza.

Held led the attack with two goals, both coming on extra-man opportunities. Sigurdson finished with two assists.

Lane Miller scooped up a team-best three ground balls, and Charlie Williams won four faceoffs. Karson Burkey caused a pair of turnovers.

The Vikings return home on Wednesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. against No. 11 Jacksonville for their Faculty and Staff Appreciation game.
