Opening Faceoff
The Vikings remain on the road as they travel to No. 2 Notre Dame on Sunday for a noon faceoff. This is the second straight Top 20 matchup for the Green and White after facing No. 11 Ohio State in their season opener.

Tough Opponents to Open the Year
For the second time in program history, the Green and White are starting the year with back-to-back Top 20 teams. The first occurrence was in 2019 with No. 15 Ohio State and No. 20 Michigan.
Series History
This will be the third meeting all-time against Notre Dame, with the Fighting Irish winning both games. The last game came in 2021, with No. 8 Notre Dame winning, 19-5.
Scouting the Irish
Notre Dame opened the 2023 season on Wednesday at home with a 21-10 win over Marquette. Chris Kavanagh and Jeffery Ricciardelli each scored five goals, while Pat Kavanagh dished out six assists. With their victory, Notre Dame extended their winning streak to seven games, the longest active streak in the country.
The Irish had three players named to the Preseason ACC team: goalie Liam Entenmann, attacker Pat Kavanagh, and midfielder Eric Dobson.
Last Game Out
Cleveland State opened the season with a 19-12 setback at No. 11 Ohio State. Gannon Matthews and Brendan Sigurdson had three goals each, all of which came in the second half. Five different Vikings had an assist while Evan Moskwa went 6-of-11 in the faceoff circle with six ground balls.
Milestone Approaching
Ryan Haigh is second all-time in career goals with 49, trailing current graduate assistant coach, Tristan Hanna's record of 57.
Returning Players
Gannon Matthews was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and All-Freshman team this past year. He appeared in all 13 games as a midfielder, scoring 19 goals and adding 15 assists for 34 points.
Amiri Austin received All-Freshman Team recognition after playing in all 13 games at attack last season. On the year, Austin boasted five goals and six assists for 11 points.
ASUN Preseason Poll
Cleveland State was selected to finish seventh in the ASUN after receiving 38 points. Utah topped the poll with 92 points, Jacksonville was second with 90 points, and Robert Morris came in third with 85 points.
ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team
Matthews, a sophomore from Eagle, Idaho, was named to the preseason team as a midfielder.
2023 Cleveland State Men's Lacrosse Tickets
Season tickets for all six home games for the 2023 slate are on sale for $50 per ticket. Single-game tickets are also available with prices set at $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children 12 and under.
Up Next
Cleveland State will play its first game at home on Saturday, March 4 against Canisius at 1 p.m. The game is also Senior Day with the Vikings honoring them prior to the start.
