THE FIRST TEE: Cleveland State will return to action when the Vikings host the 54-hole CSU Invitational on Monday (Sept. 24) and Tuesday (Sept. 25) at the par-71, 7,155-yard Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio. The 11-team field will play a practice round on Sunday before opening with 36 holes on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 am. The invitational will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday starting with tee times at 8:00 am.

LAST TIME OUT: CSU carded rounds of 299-309-301 (909) to finish 10th at the Kansas Invitational on Sept. 17-18. Playing at the par-72, 7,092-yard Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan., the Vikings were able to improve upon their 16th place finish at the event last season. Freshman Kent Monas fired rounds of 73-75-70 (218) to tie for third place overall.

A LITTLE HISTORY LESSON: The CSU Invitational moved to Sand Ridge G.C. in 2005 and Louisville claimed a one stroke win over TCU. Last season, Eastern Michigan opened with rounds of 308-287 (595) to earn a one shot win over Eastern Kentucky in a rain shortened 36-hole event. Andy Connell of Xavier holds the invitational and competitive course record with a 65 in the second round of the 2005 tournament.

THE HEAD COACH: Steve Weir, a 2006 CSU graduate, is in his first season as the head golf coach after serving as an assistant coach last season. In his lone season of golf for the Vikings (2006), Weir earned all-league honors and was a two-time Horizon League Golfer of the Week. He was instumental in helping the Vikings claim the 2006 Horizon League Championship as he placed 11th overall. In addition, he holds the school-record for lowest round as he carded an eight-under par 63 en route to a runner-up finish at the Belmont Intercollegiate.

GOING LOW: CSU's first round total of 288 at the John Piper Intercollegiate was its best team round since the Vikings shot a 280 in the opening round of the 2006 Horizon League Championships at the 6,701 yard, par 72 Plum Creek Golf Club on May 1.

UP NEXT: The Vikings will have a week off before returning to action at the 54-hole IPFW Fall Invitational at Deer Track G.C. in Fort Wayne, Ind.
