CSU Golfers Fourth After First Day Of MCC Championships

Lemont, Ill -- After the first day of play at the 2001 MCC Golf Championships at Cog Hill Golf Course, the Cleveland State golfers stand in fourth place with 630, 11 strokes behind leader Detroit at 619.

The Vikings were in second after the first 18 holes, shooting 313 and trailing Detroit by just one stroke. However, the Vikes carded a 317 for the second 18 while the Titans along with Wisconsin-Green Bay turned in 307.

UW-Green Bay holds down second with a 623 followed by Wright State at 625 and then CSU.

Individually for the Vikings, senior Craig Hicks (Tecumseh, ONT/Belle River) is tied for sixth after shooting 78-78--156 while sophomore Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, ONT/E.J. Brennan) is tied for 10th, one stroke back with a 78-79--157. In addition, sophomore P.J. Myers (Westlake, OH/St. Ignatius) carded a 78-80--158 and freshman Mike Bognar (Seven Hills, OH/Normandy) turned in a 79-80--159 to stand tied for 12th and 14th, respectively.

The 2001 MCC Championships conclude Tuesday with 18 holes at Cog Hill.
