CLEVELAND - Cleveland State sophomore Jake Scott and freshman Katie Broere have been named the Horizon League Golf Athletes of the Week for March 14-20. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday. The honor is the first for both student-athletes.

Scott claimed the first medalist honors of his collegiate career, posting back-to-back rounds of even par 72 to defeat Oakland's Frank McAuliffe by two strokes at the Butler Spring Invitational (March 19-20). The Strongsville, Ohio native was instrumental in the Vikings winning their first tournament title of the year, as they upended Oakland by 14 strokes. He becomes the 14th CSU golfer to win a tournament since 1994 and the first to do so in nearly two years.

Playing at the same event, Broere posted Cleveland State's best showing of the spring, carding back-to-back career-low rounds of 80 to finish in a tie for fifth at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind. The Bracebridge, Ontario native led the Vikings with three birdies, which was good for third in the tournament.

The women return to action this weekend (March 24-25) at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. Meanwhile, the men are off until the Marshall Invitational on April 6-7.
