Men's Golfers Place Eighth At Citadel

The Cleveland State Men's Golf Team kicked off their spring campaign over spring break with an eighth place finish in The Citadel Invitational Golf Tournament at Pine Forrest Country Club in Summerville, SC. The Vikings struggled early in the tournament, posting a first round score of 332, but rallied strong with a 306 in the second and final round to finish with an overall score of 638. CSU tallied 14 birdies and 76 pars during the Invitational and placed third as a team at par 5 scoring with a 5.16 stroke average.

Senior Craig Hicks (Tecumseh, Ont./Belle River) paced the CSU squad by placing third with a score of 148 and finishing only four strokes behind the 144 of tournament winner Keith Orlen of Elon. Hicks carded six birdies and dominated the field at par 3 holes, posting an invitational-best 2.63 stroke average. Sophomore Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ont./E.J. Brennan) placed second on the team, shooting a 154 which tied him for 18th overall. Freshman Mike Bognar (Seven Hills, Oh./Normandy) tied for 44th and sophomore P.J. Myers (Westlake, Oh./St. Ignatius) placed 53rd with scores of 164 and 172, respectively.

The Elon golfers shot two outstanding rounds of 301 and 294 en route to their first-place score of 595, placing them a full 11 strokes ahead of second place finisher Jacksonville.

The Vikings are in action again March 25 and 26 to participate in the Butler Invitational held at the Trophy Club.
