WEST CHICAGO, Ill. - Cleveland State sophomore Mike Rutgers (Kingsville, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) surged into the lead at the DePaul John Dallio Memorial Invitational following a school record 66 in Monday's second round. The Vikings stand in fifth overall at 576, seven shots behind co-leaders UW-Green Bay and Southern Illinois with 18 holes remaining. The 13-team field is competing at the 6,968-yard, par 72 Prairie Landing Golf Club.

After posting a 71 in the morning, Rutgers established the new 72-hole school record in the afternoon to take a one shot lead over UW-Green Bay's Derek Wathke and Detroit's Kyler Murphy, who both stand at six-under par (138). Senior Bill Schaefer (Independence, Ohio/Independence) and sophomore Ben Grandy (Southgate, Mich./Gabriel Richard) each carded a two-over par 146 and are tied for 23rd.

"I'm very happy with how we played as a team and that Mike was able to go out and set the new school record," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "I'm proud of the way Bill played given his first chance this season. He was a huge boost today.

"We've definitely put ourselves in position to win tomorrow with a good score. The key to our chances will be to get a quick start because the wind is only going to pick up as the day progresses."

Cleveland State closes out play at the Dallio Memorial with the final round beginning at 8:40 a.m. EDT on Tuesday morning.
