INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State stands fifth in a 14-team field after the opening day of the Butler Fall Classic at the 6,817-yard, par 71 Eagle Creek GC. The Vikings totaled a two-round score of 591 (297-294) and trail IUPUI (583) by just eight strokes. The Mastodons hold a slim two-shot lead over Cincinnati.
CSU sophomore Ben Grandy (Southgate, Mich./Gabriel Richard) posted rounds of 71 and 70 for a one-under 141.He trails IUPUI's Jeff Moulder (74-66) by just one shot for the individual lead. Sophomore Mike Rutgers (Kingsville, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) is tied for 22nd at 148 (76-72).
Youngstown State's Nate Komsa and Cincinnati's Geoff Newman are tied for third, just one shot behind Grandy.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes.
