Cowboys Cruise To Central Regional Title; Wildcats Gain NCAA Championship Berth On Final Hole

May 20, 2006

CHARDON, Ohio - Oklahoma State capped off its dominating wire-to-wire run to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Central Regional title with a final-round 280 (-3) to defeat runner-up Northwestern by 16 strokes. The Cowboys locked up their unprecedented 60th straight trip to the NCAA Championship by claiming their sixth Central Regional crown on the par 71, 7,173-yard layout at Sand Ridge Golf Club.

OSU was the only team in red numbers for the 54-hole event, carding a seven-under par 845. Northwestern was at nine-over (861), while Texas A & M and Georgia Tech tied for third at plus-15 (867). Rounding out the top 10 -- and locking up berths for the NCAA Championship on May 31 to June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore. -- were Lamar, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Clemson, Duke and Kentucky.

The Wildcats advanced by slimmest of margins, as junior Tyler Wilson birdied his final two holes to propel Kentucky past Texas by just a single stroke.

Oklahoma State freshman Jonathan Moore posted a final round 67 to claim medalist honors at eight-under par 205. He edged teammate Zach Robinson by three strokes, while Lamar's Dawie Van der Walt was the only other player under par at three-under.

Qualifying as individuals for the NCAA Championship were Kansas State's Robert Streb at three-over par and Texas' Randy Lowry a shot further back.
