BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Cleveland State carded a 20-over-par 308 and is in 11th place out of 14 teams after the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Central Regional Championship played on Thursday at the par-72, 7,372-yard The Club at Olde Stone.

The Vikings faced adversity right from the start as the tournament was delayed for about 90 minutes this morning due to inclement weather. That pushed CSU's start times back from 10:10 a.m. to close to noon.

"It was a little difficult waiting through the weather delay and we were not able to get off to the start we had hoped," head coach Steve Weir said. "I was happy with the way we kind of settled down as the day went along. There is still a lot of golf to be played over the next two days and we are going to have to go out and manage the course and not make mental mistakes."

Sophomore Kent Monas, who was playing in the final group of the day, and junior Patrick Elber paced the Vikings with rounds of four-over-par 76. The duo is tied for 38th place in the individual standings.

Monas birdied the eighth and 17th holes to go along with six bogies, while Elber recorded four birdies on the day, including three on the back nine en route to an even-par 36 on the final nine.

Junior Kyle Cobb shot a 77, while senior Jake Scott had a 79 and freshman James Boxley an 82.

The Vikings are just 12 shots behind fifth place Louisville and Mississippi who both carded opening rounds of 296. The top five teams in the 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Toledo later this month.

Round two of the Central Regional is slated for Friday, May 15. The Vikings will tee off on the 10th tee beginning at 9:20 a.m.
