GALENA, Ohio - Doug Barber certainly didn't play like a freshman on the opening day of the Horizon League Championship, putting together rounds of 71 and 72 to tie for the overall lead at minus-one with 18 holes left to play. Barber's performance at the 6,632-yard, par 72 Royal American Links helped push Cleveland State into third place at 596, just seven shots behind Detroit (589).

The Titans' Kyler Murphy is tied with Barber in the race for medalist after carding a 74 in the morning and a 69 in the afternoon. Wright State trails Detroit by just a single stroke in the team race with Brandon Judy alone in third place at 144 (75-69). UW-Green Bay is in fourth at 597.

CSU sophomores Mike Rutgers and Ben Grandy are tied for seventh at 148 -- five shots off the pace.

The championship will conclude on Tuesday morning (May 3) beginning at 8:30 a.m., although there is a possibility of play being delayed by frost.
