CENTERVILLE, Ohio - Cleveland State put together a final-round score of 304 on Tuesday to remain in third place at the Dayton Spring Invitational. Individually, Mike Rutgers posted his best finish of the year, carding an even-par 72 to finish third at 222.
UW-Green Bay coasted to the team title, claiming the top spot at 899 (306-292-301) -- 16 shots clear of runner-up St. Bonaventure (308-300-307). The Vikings rounded out the top three at 922 (304-314-304).
The Phoenix's Eric Mabee earned medalist honors after finishing at even-par 216 (71-73-72), four shots clear of Butler's Chris Spitler (73-75-72). Rutgers led CSU at plus-six (73-75-72), while Doug Barber earned his first career top-10 finish, coming in at 229 (75-77-77) which was good for ninth.
"We put together a solid team effort over the past two days," CSU head coach Tom Porten noted. "We definitely picked the right time of the year to raise the level of our game. I think we're getting closer and closer every day to the level I envisioned us reaching this year."
Cleveland State concludes the regular season with a tri-match against Kent State and Youngstown State on Friday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Red Tail Golf Club in Avon, Ohio. The Vikings will then head to Galena, Ohio for the Horizon League Championship on May 2-3 at Royal American Golf Club.
