BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Cleveland State senior Kent Monas shot a final round 71 to finish as the runner-up at the adidas Indiana Invitational that concluded on Sunday at the par-71, 6,813-yard IU Championship Golf Course.

Sophomore Michael Klaric also notched a top-five finish, tying for fourth place as the Vikings finished as the runner-up at the tournament.

"I thought we played really well all three rounds this weekend," head coach Steve Weir said. "We worked some things out and got great rounds from the top to the bottom of the lineup. This is the type of team I thought we were capable of being all year long and it's nice to be able to have this runner-up finish with the league championship coming up in two weeks."

CSU opened the tournament with a 284 in the opening round on Saturday as play was delayed in the morning due to rain. The teams went out and started round two on Saturday afternoon before finishing play this morning. CSU carded a 291 in the second round and finished with a 292 today, the third lowest round of the day.

"The conditions were a little more difficult today so I was very happy to see us post that number," Weir said. "We did a great job of maintaining our focus all day and gave ourselves opportunities to score."

Monas finished the 54 hole event with a 210 total, carding rounds of 66-73-71. Klaric was two shots behind at 212 with rounds of 74-70-68.

Tyler Merkel of Ball State won the event by one shot, carding rounds of 71-68-70 (209), while host Indiana won by 15 shots over CSU at 852.

The Vikings conclude their regular season at the 54 hole Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational on April 16-17 in Muncie, Ind.
