CELINA, Ohio - Playing as an individual, Cleveland State sophomore Kent Monas fired rounds of 71-68 (139) to win the one-day, 36 hole Norm Bullock Invitational (hosted by Wright State) at Fox's Den Golf Course on Sunday.

Monas, who is normally in CSU's lineup as one of the top five players, played as an individual today after not being one of the Vikings five qualifiers at yesterday's Ohio State Quadrangular.

"I told the team that Jake (Scott) and the top four scores at Ohio State would play today and Kent didn't make the cut," head coach Steve Weir said. "But he came out today and was unbelieveable. He was eight under for his last 22 holes and this may have served as a wake-up call for him.

"I think we are finally putting things together and playing like we are capable of playing. We are also getting healthy at the right time as we prepare to defend our league title."

One of those players who is getting healthier is junior Kyle Cobb, who shot 69 in the opening round before withdrawing for the final 18 holes. It was Cobb's first competitive round in three weeks after returning from an ankle injury.

The Vikings, who won this event last year, placed third today behind IPFW and Loyola. CSU shot 298 in the morning and 292 in the afternoon, playing the later round in wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour and driving rain.

"I was pretty happy with both rounds, especially since we played the course blind because we didn't play a practice round here yesterday," Weir said.

Jake Scott finished second in the individual standings, giving the Vikings the top-two finishers. He shot 74-68 (142) to finish three shots behind Monas.

The Vikings will be back in action on April 11-12 when CSU competes at the Adidas Indiana Invitational.
