NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Steve Weir knocked in an eight-foot par putt on the 54th hole to force a playoff, but Tennessee Tech's Scott Stallings birdied the first extra hole to claim medalist honors at the Comfort Inn Belmont Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The host Bruins bested 10 other schools to grab the team title at the par 71, 6,501 yard Old Natchez Country Club.

Weir held the 36-hole lead by three strokes over Stallings after shooting a school record 63 in Monday's second round. However, Stallings closed with his second straight 68 to catch Weir at seven-under par (206).

Belmont finished the tournament at one-over par (853), 13 shots clear of runner-up Eastern Kentucky. Tennessee Tech was in third at 870 (+18), while the Vikings wound up in fourth at 874 (+22).

Mike Rutgers joined Weir in the top 10, finishing at three-over par (215) to earn a tie for ninth.

"Steve made a clutch putt on 18 to get into the playoff, but give Stallings credit -- he played very well today," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "We're playing much better team golf than we did two weeks ago in Florida. I like the direction that we're headed and I am pleased with the fact that we put two golfers in the top ten."

The Vikings are in action again on April 9-10 when they travel to Fairborn, Ohio for the Norm Bullock Classic which is hosted by Wright State.
