Penhook, Va. - The Cleveland State men's golf team shot an opening-round score of 310 at the Liberty Spring Classic for third-place standing. The Vikings are only seven strokes out of first going into the final round Tuesday at The Water's Edge Country Club.
Senior P.J. Myers (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) paced the Viking on the first day, shooting a 75 to place in a tie for sixth overall. Senior Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennen) and sophomore Cody Harris (Tecumseh, Ontario/St. Anne's) sit just one stroke behind Myers, tied for ninth with a 76.
James Madison University leads the field of ten with a one-round score of 303, two strokes ahead of host Liberty University. Liberty's James Yoo shot a 72 and holds a one-stroke advantage over Barry Londeree of JMU for the individual lead.
The final round of the Liberty Spring Classic gets under way Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. EST.
