AVON, Ind. - Cleveland State senior Kent Monas shot an opening round 71 and is tied for third place at the Butler Spring Invitational which is being played at the par 72, 6,960 yard Prestwick G.C.

The Vikings shot 303 as a team and are in fifth place out of 13 teams.

"I thought we played pretty well today and it was nice to get back to competition," head coach Steve Weir said. "We gave away some shots on the final few holes as a team so we will have to find a way to close better down the stretch in our rounds."

Monas' one under par 71 puts him five shots out of first place and just one shot out of second place.

Senior Pat Elber shot a 76 and is tied for 24th place, while freshman Andrew Bailey is tied for 31st after an opening round 77.

The Vikings conclude play at the Butler Spring Invite with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
