ORLANDO, Fla. - Cleveland State carded rounds of 295 and 303 to open play at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational on Monday and are in 12th place out of 15 teams at the par-72 Rio Pinar C.C.
The Vikings were tied for seventh place after the opening round, but slipped five spots in the standings after round two.
"This is one of the deeper fields that we will be up against all year and I feel that we are right there as a team," head coach Steve Weir said. "We had a very respectable round in the morning, but unfortunately, we gave away a few shots in the afternoon and fell in the standings a bit."
CSU is just three shots behind 11th place Loyola (Md.) who is at 595 and four shots behind Florida Atlantic and Seton Hall which are both at 594.
Florida Gulf Coast leads the field at 13-under par (563), holding a three shot lead of host UCF and Wichita State which are at 566.
Sophomore Andrew Bailey is CSU's top golfer in the event, tied for 21st overall with rounds of 69-76 (145). Bailey's opening round 69 was tied for the second lowest opening round and was also tied for the third lowest round of the day.
Jon Riemer is tied for 47th place overall, following a first round 77 with a 73, which was the lowest second round by a CSU player.
The tournament will conclude with the third and final round Tuesday. Play at Rio Pinar begins at 8:30 a.m.
