JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Cleveland State shot an opening round 295 and is in third place out of 11 teams after 18 holes at the Don Benbow Classic on Monday.
The Vikings are eight shots behind leader IUPUI (285) and four shots behind Appalachian State (291).
"Overall, it wasn't a bad day for us," head coach Steve Weir said. "We did some good things out there, but also left some shots out there that cost us. There are some things we are going to have to improve on, but they are some small things that will come with the more swings we get."
Freshman Andrew Bailey is tied for fourth place overall after an opening round 71.He is one shot out of second place and six shots behind first round leader Josh Nichols of Appalachian State who shot a 65.
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning.
