Riemer Fires First Round 72 at Benbow Invitational

March 13, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jon Riemer shot an opening round one-over-par 72, but Cleveland State struggled to a first round 304 at the BenBow Inviational on Monday.

Riemer is one of four players who are just one shot out of the lead. Six players carded opening round 71's to share the overnight lead.

The Vikings are in sixth place out of 13 teams.

"This wasn't the start we were hoping to get off to in the spring season, but the positive is that it is only the first round," head coach Steve Weir said. "We made too many mistakes, but they are things we should be able to correct going forward. It was nice to finally be able to play a competitive round outdoors and I'm excited to get the guys back out there tomorrow.

"I thought Jon played very well today," Weir continued. "He kept the ball in play, rolled the ball well on the green and did a nice job of managing the course."

Brendan Byrne fired CSU's second lowest round of the day, carding a two-over-par 73.

The second round will be played on Tuesday.
