TAMPA, Fla. - The Cleveland State men's golf team dropped a pair of 3-2 matches on the final day of The Match Play on Saturday at the TPC of Tampa.

The Vikings opened the day with a 3-2 setback to host South Florida in the second round of the consolation bracket and then fell 3-2 to Charleston Southern in CSU's final match of the tournament.

"We came down here with the hopes of getting better and I am optimistic with this team after these four matches," head coach Steve Weir said. "We were ahead in our first match today, but made some mistakes down the stretch that cost us, but I think those are some things that can be corrected in the coming weeks.

Senior Drew Davidson was CSU's standout today, winning both of his matches at the No. 4 position to finish The Match Play with a 3-1 mark. He won 2&1 against South Florida and 4&2 versus Charleston Southern.

Kent Monas was the Vikings other winner against USF, earning a 3&2 victory, while Jon Riemer won, 3&2, against Charleston Southern.

"Overall, I thought this was a good event for us," Weir said. "The wins may not have been there, but we were able to get some swings in and we will come back and continue to work hard as we prepare for the rest of our spring schedule."

The Vikings are now out of action until March 14-15 when CSU competes at the Don Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
