Cleveland State Men’s Golf Secures T-5 Finish at Tom Tontimonia Invitational

Final Results 

Westlake, OH-The Cleveland State men's golf team capped the Tom Tontimonia Invitational with a strong final round. The tournament hosts recorded a 6-under 278 team total, the lowest round of the season for the Vikings, as CSU finished in a tie for fifth place at 6-under with Purdue Fort Wayne. Butler won the tournament with a final score of 29-under, including a tournament record 15-under par score in the final round. 

Brody Simms was the highest individual placer for the Vikings, finishing in a tie for 12th at 4-under par. This is the highest finish for Simms this season and his second top-20 finish in three starts this fall. He carded an even par 71 in the final round. Simms started on the seventh hole and worked around a quadruple bogey on the 13th hole by recording four birdies coming in to post even par.

Freshman Dillon Pendergast recorded his highest finish this season, a tie for 21st at 3-under par. Pendergast had the low round of the day for the Vikings as he finished at 5-under 66 in the third round. Pendergast recorded five birdies and an eagle against just two bogeys in posting his lowest score of the season thus far. The eagle was the second of the week for Pendergast, the only player in the field to finish with multiple eagles through 54 holes.

Andrew Kaye continued his streak of three consecutive tournaments in red figures by finishing at 1-under in a tie for 24th. Kaye posted a 2-under 69 in the third round which included six total birdies. Kaye led the Vikings with a combined 13 birdies through three rounds.

Dominik Cosic finished in a tie for 56th at 5-over par. Cosic posted a 2-over 73 in the final round. Mason Frazier finished tied for 67th at 9-over par, finishing with his lowest round of the week with a 1-over 72 in round three. Ben Scheeff, playing as an individual, finished in 79th place at 18-over par, posting a 9-over 80 in the final round.

The Vikings will have next week off before wrapping up the fall portion of the schedule at the Dayton Flyer Invitational scheduled for October 16th and 17th.
