Simms in Top-10, Cleveland State Men’s Golf Seventh after Day One of Tom Tontimonia Invitational

Westlake, OH-The Cleveland State men's golf team sits in seventh place after 36 holes at the third annual Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by CSU at Lakewood Country Club. The Vikings are at even par through two rounds after posting a six-shot improvement in Monday afternoon's second round, finishing at 3-under 281. Brody Simms is tied for eighth after posting a career-low 5-under 66 in the second round to finish at 4-under after two rounds. 

On a perfect day for scoring, Simms posted a 1-over 72 in the opening round before catching fire in round two. He made four birdies on the front nine, including a run of three in a row on holes six through eight to post a 4-under 32 on the front nine. His lone bogey of round two came on the 14th hole, but he rebounded with two birdies on the last four holes coming in, including calmly nailing an uphill putt on the finishing hole which went in on the last roll for his sixth and final birdie of the round. Simms is four shots back of Butler's Damon Dickey who leads the individual race at 8-under par.

Andrew Kaye is tied for 28th after posting a 1-over par total through the first two rounds. He posted a 2-under 69 in the opening round which included four birdies. He followed with a 3-over 74 in round two.

Freshmen Dillon Pendergast and Domink Cosic posted strong showings on day one. Pendergast finished at 2-over after posting back-to-back scores of 72 which landed him in a tie for 34th. The highlight of his day was a hole out eagle on the par-4 fourth hole in the second round. Cosic, playing in the lineup for the first time, is tied for 42nd at 3-over par. He posted a 5-over 75 in the first round but rebounded nicely with a 2-under 69 in the second round. Cosic posted five birdies in his second round including three over the final seven holes to finish in red figures.

Mason Frazier is tied for 72nd place at 8-over par and Ben Scheeff, playing as an individual, is tied for 74th at 9-over par.

The third and final round is scheduled for a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow. Spectators are encouraged to attend in-person, and live scoring will be available on Golfstat throughout the day.
