Cleveland State Men’s Golf Tied for 14th after Day 1 of Virtues Intercollegiate

Results 

Nashport, OH-The Cleveland State men's golf team posted a 13-over par team total on Monday in the first two rounds of the Virtues Intercollegiate at the Virtues Golf Club. The Vikings posted 7-over 295 in the first round and improved by a shot to 6-over 294 in the second round. The Vikings sit in a four-way tie for 14th place with Ohio, Youngstown State and Bowling Green. Michigan leads the field at 24-under par. 

Andrew Kaye finished in red figures over the first 36 holes and sits in a tie for 21st place at 2-under for the tournament. Kaye carded an even par 72 in the first round and improved in the second round posting a 2-under 70. Kaye recorded 10 birdies on the day including six in the second round. Kaye finished 4-under on the par-4's, tied for the second-best total of any player in the field through two rounds. 

Brody Simms is also under par through two rounds, coming in at 1-under after rounds of 71 and 72. Simms sits in a tie for 26th place in the individual standings. He also made 10 birdies across the two rounds, including a run of three in a row to begin his second round of the day. 

Mason Frazier is tied for 55th place at 4-over par after posting back-to-back scores of 74. Frazier carded five birdies in his first 36 holes. 

Freshmen Dillon Pendergast and Ben Scheeff are both tied for 84th place after finishing at 13-over par. The duo is playing in their second-ever collegiate event. 

The Vikings will close the tournament with round three scheduled for Tuesday morning. Cleveland State will start on the back nine with tee times off the 10th hole starting at 10 a.m.
