TOURNAMENT RECAP

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Freshman Gunnar McCollins shot a final round 78 and finished tied for 45th overall to lead the Cleveland State men's golf team at the 2019 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Tuesday at the Guyan Golf & Country Club.

McCollins posted rounds of 72-66-78 to finish with a 54-hole score of 216 to lead the Vikings. His final round 78 included a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Jules Blakely finished second for the Vikings, and tied for 50th overall, with a 54-hole score of 218. He closed his tournament with a 79 after shooting 68-71 on day one of the tournament.

Cleveland State finished 13th in the team scoring with a total of 875. The Vikings posted rounds of 286-286 to open tournament play and finished with a total of 303 over the final 18 holes.

Virginia Commonwealth closed the tournament with a score of 276 to finish first in the field with a 54-hole total of 821. Kyle Schmidt of Dayton was the medalist in the field as he posted rounds of 65-69-68.

Jack Hanus completed his first tournament of the season for the Vikings by tying for 59th place overall. He posted rounds of 75-73-72 to finish with a score of 220. He had three birdies on his way to posting the Vikings low round of the final 18 holes of play.

Zach Robbins closed the tournament with a 74 and tied for 66th overall. His score of 221 included rounds of 71-76 on day one.

David Laib rounded out the Vikings scoring contingent as he had an 81 over his final 18 holes. He tied for 66th overall with a two-day total of 236.

Jonny Filler competed as an individual during the tournament and closed with an 83. He posted rounds of 74-81 on day one and was 92nd overall with a score of 238.

The Vikings return to action on Sept. 14-15 at the Raisin' Canes Invitational.
