Defending Champions Open Horizon League Tournament Play on Sunday

CLEVELAND -- The five-time defending champion Cleveland State men's golf team will open defense of its title on Sunday (Arpil 21) at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Vikings enter the Horizon League Tournament as the top seed, while IUPUI is the second seed and Oakland earned the third seed.

Cleveland State captured its fifth consecutive Horizon League title last year with a comfortable 18-stroke edge over second-place Oakland. The Vikings were led by Anton Krecic who finished second overall with a three-round total of 217. Zak Supelak was tied for 18th place last season after shooting a 54-hole total of 232.

The Vikings put together a record-setting performance at the Wildcats Spring Invitational on April 8-9. On day two of the tournament, Cleveland State recorded the best round in school history in relation to par as the Vikings finished 14-under par and shot a 270. Krecic and Zach Robbins each carded a 65 to lead the way for the Vikings, while Supelak finished with a 67.

Robbins currently leads the Vikings with a 74.6 scoring average and has two top-five finishes and three top-20 finishes for the season.

Supelak is second on Cleveland State with a 74.9 average and has recorded a pair of top-10 finishes during the season.

Krecic ranks third on the team with a 75.3 scoring average and Jules Blakely is fourth on the squad with a 75.5 average.

Jack Hanus and Miles DeMuesy round out the Vikings team. Hanus is averaging 77.3 on the year, while DeMuesy has a 78.7 stroke average.

The 54-hole event will be played at the El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club. Blakely will be the first Viking off the tee on Sunday as he begins his round at 9:30 a.m.
