FIVE GOLDEN RINGS: Men's Golf Claims Fifth Straight Horizon League Title

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State men's golf team captured its fifth straight Horizon League Championship and ninth overall in the last 13 years, shooting a final round 294 on Tuesday at the par-71, 6,670-yard El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort.

The Vikings entered the final round with an 11-shot lead and carded the lowest round among the eight teams for the second straight day. CSU was the only team in the field to break 300 more than one time, following Sunday's first round 303 with a tournament-low round of 292 yesterday.

The Vikings now advance to the NCAA regionals, which will be contested from May 14-16. Regional sites include Raleigh, North Carolina (Lonnie Poole Golf Course), Bryan, Texas (Traditions Club), Columbus, Ohio (Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course), Kissimmee, Florida (Reunion Resort), Norman, Oklahoma (Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club) and Stockton, California (The Reserve at Spanos Park).

The NCAA selection show will take place on Wednesday (May 2) at 6:00 pm and will be broadcast live on The Golf Channel.

Junior Anton Krecic and senior Blake Prince both earned spots on the all-tournament team by finishing among the top five. Krecic - the medalist at last year's League championship - finished as the runner-up this year with a 217 total. He carded rounds of 76-71-70, leading the field in par-four scoring (4.09), finishing third in par-three scoring (2.92) and ranking second with 37 pars.

Prince, who opened with rounds of 74-78, fired a one-under-par 71 today to finish fifth at 222. He was two-over-par through four holes today, but used three straight birdies to close the front nine and after two bogeys on his first three holes to open the back nine, Prince closed with back-to-back birdies for a 70. Prince ranked fourth in the field in par-four scoring (4.15) and was second with nine birdies.

Senior Joey Krecic finished 12th overall and 228 (76-74-78), while junior Nick Infanti tied for 15th place at 230 (77-72-81) and freshman Zak Supelak tied for 18th place at 232 (81-75-76).

Infanti made the only eagle of the tournament with a three on the par-five first hole today, while Joey Krecic ranked fourth in the field in par-five scoring (4.78).

As a team, the Vikings led the field in par-four scoring (4.25), pars (155), birdies (34) and eagles (1) and were second in par-five scoring (5.09).

With today's title, seniors Joey Krecic, Prince and Matt McAdoo become the third, fourth and fifth players in program history to win four straight League titles, joining Paul Minko and Patrick Luth (2014-17).

Oakland finished second at 907, which was 18 shots behind the Vikings. IUPUI was third at 911 and was followed by Wright State (914), Northern Kentucky (915), Green Bay (932), Youngstown State (938) and Detroit Mercy (948).
