ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Cleveland State men's golf team shot a final round 313 and tied for 12th place at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional that concluded on Wednesday at the par-72, 7,562-yard UNM Championship Course.
The Vikings opened the tournament with rounds of 312 and 316 on Monday and Tuesday.
CSU was making its seventh appearance in the last 11 years at the NCAA regional after winning the Horizon League Championship in April. Today's round concluded one of the best seasons in school history which saw the Vikings win two tournaments and post six top-two finishes.
CSU's win at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational in late March was the first in-season tournament victory since 2012.
In addition, the Vikings posted a 295.3 scoring average this year, tops in program history. It bettered the old record of 296.8 set in 2007-08.
Sophomore Joey Krecic led the Vikings with a final round 74, the lowest round of the tournament by a CSU player. He tied for 22nd place overall at 227 (76-77-74). It is the third highest finish by a CSU golfer at regionals, topped by Michael Klaric's eighth place showing in 2011 at The Farms GC in San Diego, Calif., and Andrew Bailey's tie for 15th place at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., in 2014.
Patrick Luth placed 52nd overall at 237 (77-76-84), while Mitchell Moore tied for 57th place at 239 (80-82-77). Today was the final round of Moore's career and he ends his time at CSU having won three Horizon League Championships and playing in the NCAA regionals three times.
Blake Prince finished 60th with rounds of 79-71-80 (240) and Paul Minko tied for 73rd place at 253 (82-89-82).
Arizona State won the regional with a 54-hole total of 856, while TCU was the runner-up at 888. The duo advanced to the NCAA Championship along with USC (895), South Florida (899) and San Diego State (904).
SDSU tied for fifth place with Texas A&M, but won the playoff with an aggregate score of five-under-par on the first playoff hole.
Texas Tech and New Mexico tied for seventh place at 907, while Liberty (923), Iowa (925), NC State (929), Army and Cleveland State (941) and Wagner (967) rounded out the field.
