THREE-PEAT! Men's Golf Wins Third Straight League Title; Krecic & Luth Named to All-Tourney Team

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State men's golf team made it three in a row as the Vikings won their third straight Horizon League Championship with a final round 300 on Sunday at the par-72, 6,816-yard Mission Inn Resort.

With the League title, CSU earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals which will take place from May 16-18 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Tucson, Ariz., Kohler, Wis., Albuquerque, N.M., Stillwater, Okla., and Nashville, Tenn.

The selection show is scheduled for Thursday (May 5) at 9:30 am on the Golf Channel.

It also marked the seventh League title in the last 11 years for CSU, which also won titles in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015.

The Vikings entered today's final round with a seven shot lead over Oakland after a second round one-under-par 287 and used strong final rounds from Joey Krecic and Patrick Luth to earn the title by eight shots over Oakland.

CSU finished with a 54-hole total of 882 and was followed by Oakland (890), Wright State (891), Youngstown State (905), Detroit (917), Valparaiso (920), Northern Kentucky (925) and Green Bay (935).

Krecic shot his third straight round of one-under-par 71 and finished as the runner-up at the championship. After a front nine one-over-par 36, Krecic made a birdie on the par-5, 10th hole and eagled the par-4, 11th hole en route to a two-under-par 35 on the back nine.

On Thursday night, Krecic was named to the All-Horizon League first team.

Luth fired a final round two-under-par 70 today, placing third overall with a one-under-par 215 total. He made five birdies today, including three on the back nine to shoot three-under-par 35. Luth led the field in par-four scoring, playing the par-fours in one-over-par for the tournament. His 35 pars were tied for the second most in the field.

Blake Prince finished tied for 19th at 231 (77-69-85), while Mitchell Moore (83-76-77) and Paul Minko (73-81-82) tied for 27th place at 236.
