Vikings Return to Action at Wright State Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team, fresh of winning the Villanova Wildcat Invitational last week, returns to action on Monday and Tuesday (April 4-5) at the Wright State Invitational.

The 54-hole event will be played at the par-71, 6,643-yard Miami Valley GC in Dayton. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

The Vikings are coming off a tournament title at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational that was played on March 28-29 in Malvern, Pa. CSU shot a first round 302 and was in eighth place in the 21 team field, but a final round 291 lifted the Vikings past everyone as CSU won the team title by six shots over runner-up Lehigh.

CSU's 291 was the second lowest round of the entire tournament and the best final round by five shots.

More impressive is that just one of CSU's five golfers finished in the top-18 as CSU used a total team effort to claim the title.

Sophomore Blake Prince tied for third place with rounds of 72-74 (146) and was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Senior Mitchell Moore was CSU's next best finisher, tying for 19th place. He was in 74th place after a first round 79, but a final round even-par 71 moved him up 55 spots in the final standings. Moore's 71 was tied for the best final round.

Junior Paul Minko tied for 25th place with rounds of 78-73 (151), while sophomore Joey Krecic was tied for 37th place at 152 (73-79) and junior Paul Minko took 10 shots off his first round score, shooting a final round 73, and tied for 72nd place (83-73 - 156).

It is CSU's first team title since winning the Horizon League Championship last year in Florida and the first in-season title since the Vikings won the John Piper Intercollegiate from Sept. 17-18, 2012, in Bowling Green.

One of the most balanced teams in CSU history from top to bottom, Krecic leads the Viking five with a 73.2 scoring average, while Prince is close behind at 73.6. Minko averages 74.9, while Luth (75.3) and Moore (75.5) round out the CSU lineup.

CSU will return to action at the Earl Yestingmeyer Invitational on April 15-16 in Muncie, Ind. It will be the Vikings final tune-up before the Horizon League Championship in Florida from April 22-24 when CSU is the two-time defending champion.
