Final Round 291 Lifts Vikings to Wildcat Invitational Title

MALVERN, Pa. - A final round 291 lifted the Cleveland State men's golf team to the Villanova Wildcat Invitational title on Tuesday at the par-71, 7,055-yard White Manor CC.

It is CSU's first team title since winning the Horizon League Championship last Florida and the first in-season title since the Vikings won the John Piper Intercollegiate from Sept. 17-18, 2012, in Bowling Green.

The Vikings opened today's final round in eighth place after an opening round 302, but were just four shots behind a trio of teams who were tied for second place and 13 shots behind first round leader Wagner.

Playing in the third to last group of the day, the Vikings used an even-par 71 from Mitchell Moore, two-over-par rounds of 73 from Patrick Luth and Paul Minko and a four-over-par 74 by Blake Prince to post a 291 today.

It proved to be the lowest round of the day, but the Vikings had to sit in the clubhouse and wait for the final six teams to finish and post scores before finding out the final results.

The wait was worth it as CSU's 593 total was six shots clear of runner-up Lehigh and seven shots ahead of first round leader Wagner. Host Villanova, Binghamton and LaSalle tied for fourth place with 601 totals.

Moore began his day off with a birdie on the opening hole and added birdies on the 10th and 15th holes to go along with three bogies for his even-par round. Moore was one of just two players to card an even-par 71 today and moved up 55 spots to finish tied for 19th place at 150 (79-71).

Prince was CSU's top finisher, tying for third place with rounds of 72-74 (146), finishing three shots behind the medalist and one shot behind the runner-up.

Minko tied for 25th place at 151 (78-73), while Joey Krecic tied for 37th place with rounds of 73-79 (152). Luth knocked 10 shots off yesterday's first round 83 with today's 73 and tied for 72nd place at 155.

The Vikings return to action on Monday and Tuesday (April 4-5) at the Wright State Invitational.
