Vikings Open Play at NCAA Regionals

BREMERTON, Wash. - The Cleveland State men's golf team shot an opening round 305 at the NCAA Regionals that opened on Thursday at the par-72, 7,168-yard Gold Mountain G.C.

The Vikings are in 14th place, while UAB is in the lead after a first round 280. TCU and USC are one shot behind the Blazers and tied for second place at 281 and are followed by Iowa State and Washington (287), South Carolina (288), UC Davis (289), Michigan and Pepperdine (292), Baylor (293), South Dakota (298), Sam Houston State (300), VCU (304) and CSU.

The top-five teams after 54 holes, plus the top individual finisher not on one of those five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships from May 29-June 3 at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.

The Vikings, who are playing in the NCAA Regionals for the sixth time in the last 10 years, were paced by freshman Joey Krecic who carded an opening round two-over-par 74. Krecic shot one-over-par 37 on each nine, making two birdies and two bogeys on the opening nine with one birdie and two bogeys on the inward nine.

Krecic is tied for 37th place.

Senior Michael Balcar had two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine for an even-par 36 to finish with a first round 76 and is tied for 50th place.

Junior Mitchell Moore is tied for 55th place after a 77, while sophomore Pat Luth shot a 78 and is tied for 63rd place. Junior Paul Minko is tied for 70th following an 81.

The second round of the NCAA Regionals will take place on Friday (May 15) with the Vikings starting play off the 10th tee. Minko will be CSU's first player off at 9:50 am PST with players teeing off in 11 minute increments.

CSU will play with VCU and the five individuals in round two.
