HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State men's golf team won its second straight Horizon League Championship and its sixth in the last 10 years, carding a final round 309 and finish with a 54-hole total of 906, bettering runner-up Oakland by 10 shots.

By winning the league championship, CSU receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The selections will be announced live on the Golf Channel on Monday (May 4) at 10:00 a.m.

The NCAA Regionals will be played from May 14-16 with the sites being in Noblesville, Ind., Chapel Hill, N.C., San Diego, Calif., Lubbock, Texas, Bremerton, Wash., and New Haven, Conn.

After shooting rounds of 293 and 304 on Friday and Saturday, the Vikings entered today's final round with a two-shot lead over Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies, Wright State and Valparaiso all made runs at CSU today, with Oakland taking the lead for a moment, but the Vikings used a strong close over the final nine holes to claim the title.

As a team, the Vikings played the back nine to a six-over-par score, while Oakland was +15 and Valparaiso +11.

Michael Balcar shot a final round 74, using a pair of birdies on the back nine to shoot a one-under-par 36 on the inward nine and force a playoff with Evan Bowser of Oakland. Both players made par on the first playoff hole before Bowser's par on the second playoff hole gave him the individual title.

Balcar finished with a 54 hole total of 220 (73-73-74), earning a spot on the all-tournament team along with teammate Mitchell Moore who opened the tournament with an even-par 72 and followed with back-to-back rounds of 76 to finish fourth overall.

Paul Minko tied for 12th place with a 231 total (73-79-79), while Joey Krecic tied for 19th place at 236 (75-77-84). Pat Luth tied for 28th place at 242 (84-78-80).

Oakland finished with a 916 total and was followed by Wright State (917), Valparaiso (920), Youngstown State (924), Green Bay (947) and Detroit (948).
