Men's Golf Plays Final Regular Season Event

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team will play its final regular season event when the Vikings compete in the Rutherford Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday (April 18-19).

The 54-hole event, hosted by Penn State, will be played at the par-71, 7,202-yard Penn State Blue Course. The renovated Blue Course hosted its first major amateur event in 2009, the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship. With the updates and improvements made in 2007, the Blue Course is among the top courses in the Big Ten. The Blue Course has hosted numerous events conducted by the USGA, FCWT, AJGA, IJGT, PGA Junior Series and the West Penn Golf Association.

In addition to host Penn State and CSU, the field includes Binghampton, Bowling Green, Canisius, Eastern Michigan, Georgetown, George Washington, Rutgers, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph's and Youngstown State.

Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The Vikings are coming off a seventh place finish at the Wright State Invitational on April 5-6, shooting rounds of 303-303-300. Blake Prince tied for sixth place at the tournament with a 54-hole total of 219 (73-72-74).

Michael Balcar, who was playing as an individual, placed fifth overall with rounds of 76-69-73 (218). Balcar leads the team with a 72.7 scoring average and has four top-20 finishes in his six events this year. He is tops on the squad with seven rounds of par or better.

Pat Luth is averaging 75.0 this season and leads the team with a pair of top-five finishes and ranks second with three rounds of par or better. Joe Krecic is close behind with a 75.1 scoring average, while Mitchell Moore posts a 75.7 scoring average. He has the low round of the season for the Vikings with a 65 in the fall.

CSU is back in action on April 24-26 when the Vikings compete in the Horizon League Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Vikings, who have captured six league titles overall, are the defending league champion and have won five of the last nine league titles.
