CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team opens the 2015 spring season on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 23-24) when the Vikings compete in the 10th Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

The 36-hole event will be played at the 6,828-yard, par 72 Wexford Plantation course with the field playing 18 holes each day. Both days will begin with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m.

This year's field includes host Francis Marion, Austin Peay, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Cleveland State, Dayton, Elon, Furman, Georgia Southern, Ohio, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, Tennessee Tech, USC Aiiken, VCU, Western Carolina, Wofford and William & Mary.

The Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate is the first of five spring tournaments for CSU, leading up to the Horizon League Championship at the end of April where the Vikings will be the defending champions.

CSU captured its sixth Horizon League Championship last season and its fifth in the last nine years.

Despite the loss of three-time Horizon League Player of the Year Andrew Bailey and all-tournament team member Brendan Byrne from last year's squad, the Vikings showed glimpses during the fall season when they played in five tournaments.

The team's best finish was a runner-up showing at the season opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in September that included a second round 286.

Senior Michael Balcar, a first team all-league selection in each of the last two seasons, led the Vikings with a 72.6 scoring average in the fall, including a pair of top-10 finishes.

Sophomore Pat Luth averaged 73.8 during the fall campaign, while junior Mitchell Moore posted a 74.3 scoring average. That included two rounds in the 60's, including a 65 during the first round of the Marshall Invitational that was tied for the second lowest round in school history.

Moore was also the runner-up at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.

CSU's second tournament of the spring will be the Benbow Invitational on March 9-10 in Jacksonville, Fla.
