Men's Golf Moves Up To 9th at NCAA Sugar Grove Regional

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Cleveland State men's golf team took 17 shots off its opening round score, carding a second round 298 and moved into ninth place at the NCAA Sugar Grove Regional on Friday afternoon.

The second round was slated to begin at 8:00 a.m. CST, but was delayed by almost 90 minutes due to wet, windy weather and temperatures in the 40's.

Senior Andrew Bailey moved up from a tie for 23rd place to a tie for second place with a second round three-under-par 69. He has a 36 hole total of 145, six shots behind Brian Campbell of Illinois who is at five-under-par 139 (69-70).

He is one of eight players who stand at one-over-par after two rounds.

Bailey, who started on the 10th hole today along with all of his CSU teammates, had bogeys on the 10th and 13th holes, but came back to birdie four of the next five holes to shoot 34 on his first nine. He added a birdie on the par-four, sixth hole to go along with eight part on his final nine.

Junior Michael Balcar carded a second round 74 and is tied for 33rd place at 153 (79-74). Balcar had four birides today, including on the 17th and 18th holes to card a first nine one-over-par and added his fourth birdie of the day on the second hole.

Freshman Pat Luth was four shots better today, carding a 77 and is tied for 49th place at 158 (81-77). After carding a five-over-par on the first nine, Luth made nine pars coming in.

Sophomore Mitchell Moore was CSU's fourth score today with a 78 and is tied for 61st place at 161 (83-78). Moore birdied two of his first three holes en route to a one-under-par 35 on the opening nine.

Senior Brendan Byrne is tied for 55th place overall after rounds of 79 and 80 (159).

The final round of the NCAA Regional will take place on Saturday with the first tee times scheduled for 7:30 a.m. CST. CSU will be in the first wave with Jacksonville State and Kent State with the five players from each team teeing off between 7:30 a.m. CST and 8:14 a.m.

The top five teams, as well as the top individual not on one of those five teams, will advance to the NCAA Championship final, hosted by Wichita State, May 23-28, in Hutchinson, Kan.
