CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Andrew Bailey has been named the Horizon League Men's Golf Player of the Year for the third straight year, while junior Michael Balcar was selected to the All-Horizon League first team.

The awards were announced on Thursday night at the awards dinner and banquet prior to the league championship which tees off on Friday morning.

Bailey becomes just the second player in league history to earn Player of the Year honors three times, joining former Detroit golfer Mark Sommerfeld (2006-08).

A four-time first team all-league honoree, Bailey has earned four Horizon League Player of the Week honors this year and leads the league with a 72.07 scoring average, 1.61 shots better than Detroit's Brendan Leonard who is second.

Bailey has carded rounds of par or better in 16 of his 27 rounds this year and has five top-five finishes and seven top-10's. He has also won two events and is on pace to break Jake Scott's CSU single season scoring average of 72.7 in 2007-08. Bailey's 73.5 career scoring average is tops in program history and he is the only golfer to break the 210 mark in a 54-hole event in the league this year, carding a 207 (66-70-71) to win the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate and a 208 (70-70-68) to finish third at the CSU Invitational.

Balcar has been slotted into the No. 2 position all season and is making his second straight appearance on the all-league team. He ranks sixth in the league with a 74.48 scoring average and has nine rounds of par or better. Balcar finished second at the St. Francis Invitational on April 14, CSU's final event before the league championship.

Balcar tied for third place at last year's league championship.

The Horizon League Championship will run from Friday through Sunday at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., with the men playing the El Campeon Course and the women playing the Las Colinas course. Play will begin at 7:30 a.m. all three days and live scoring in available through Golfstat.

Both the men's and women's team champion will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
