Vikings Set for Back-to-Back Events

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team will play its final two events of the spring from Saturday through Tuesday before the Horizon League Championship at the end of April.

CSU's busy four day stretch begins at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday and Sunday (April 12-13) and continues on Monday and Tuesday (April 14-15) at the St. Francis (Pa) Red Flash Invitational.

The Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio State, will be played at the par-72, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course. The 15 team field will play 36 holes on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start with the final round slated for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with tee times off the first and 10th tees.

The event will feature one of the deepest fields CSU has ever competed against with six teams ranked in the top-60 of this week's Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and nine teams in the top-71. Those teams include Georgia Tech (No. 3), UAB (No. 17), UNLV (No. 28), Kent State (No. 30), Northwestern (No. 42), Missouri (No. 51), Oregon State (No. 63), Ohio State (No. 66) and Charlotte (No. 71).

Ball State, CSU, Eastern Michigan, Liberty, Miami (OH) and Penn State round out the field.

Following Sunday's final round in Columbus, the Vikings will head to Johnstown, Pa., for the Red Flash Invitational at the Sunnehanna C.C. CSU, which will not get a chance to play a practice round, will open play with 36 holes at 10:00 a.m. on Monday with the final round on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.

The eight team field includes two teams from host St. Francis, Bucknell, Canisius, CSU, Detroit, Humber and Robert Morris.

CSU is coming off an 11th place showing at the Memphis Intercollegiate on March 31-April 1 as Andrew Bailey tied for third place with rounds of 72-76-70 (218). It was his fifth top-five finish in eight events this year, earning Bailey Horizon League Player of the Week honors.

Bailey continues to lead the Horizon League in scoring with a 71.6 scoring average, while Micahel Balcar ranks second on the team at 74.5. Brendan Byrne is third on the squad (75.2), while Mitchell Moore (76.4) and Pat Luth (76.9) round of CSU's lineup.

Following these two events, the Vikings return to action at the Horizon League Championship from April 25-27 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
