Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team opens the spring season when the Vikings compete at the 9th Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion, on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 17-18).

The event will be played at the par-72, 6,850-yard Wexford Plantation G.C. in Hilton Head, S.C. It will be CSU's first appearance in the event since 2010.

The Vikings had a strong fall season, with three runner-up finishes in their five events. CSU finished fourth and seventh in their other two events.

Senior Andrew Bailey, the Horizon League Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons, posted a 70.0 scoring average in the fall, tops in the league by more than two shots. Bailey won the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate and the UD Flyer Invitational, while posting two more top-five finishes in the fall.

Bailey recorded rounds of par or better in 11 of his 14 fall rounds, including a career-best 66 in the opening round of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.

Junior Michael Balcar had a 73.4 scoring average in the fall, fifth best in the league. He had seven rounds of par or better with a sixth place finish at the CSU Invitational.

Senior Brendan Byrne had a 73.8 scoring average in the spring with six rounds of par or better. His scoring average ranked seventh in the league in the fall, giving CSU three of the top seven scoring averages.

Paul Minko and Mitchell Moore averaged 74.8 in the fall, while Pat Luth posted a 74.9 scoring average to solidify the middle and back of the lineup. The trio ranks 15th, 16th and 17th in the league in scoring average.

CSU had a 290.0 scoring average as a team in the fall.

The Vikings return to action on March 10-11 at the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
