AURORA, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a final round even-par 288 to finish as the runner-up of the CSU Invitational that concluded on Tuesday at Barrington C.C.

The Vikings were sixth in the 13 team field after an opening round 290, but climbed into third place after an afternoon round of 285 yesterday. Today's final round, allowed the Vikings to move past Detroit and claim second place.

Cincinnati won the event with a 29-under-par score of 835 and was followed by CSU (863) and the trio of Evansville, Loyola and Detroit who tied for third place at 869. Appalachian State was sixth (873) with Oakland (880), Youngstown State (886), Wright State (890), Dayton (895), Robert Morris (912), Butler (921) and IPFW (930) rounding out the field.

Senior Andrew Bailey placed third overall and 8-under-par 208, carding three straight under par rounds (70-70-68). His final round 68 was tied for the second lowest of the day. Bailey was the lone player in the field to record two eagles and led the 80 player field in par-5 scoring at 4.25 (-9).

Junior Michael Balcar also fired three rounds under par (71-71-69) and placed sixth overall at 211. His 15 birdies over the 54 hole tournament were third most by a player. Senior Brendan Byrne shot a final round even-par 72 and tied for 21st place at 218 (75-71-72). He ranked third in the field in par-5 scoring at 4.42 (-7).

Playing as an individual, freshman Pat Luth had a strong showing, finishing tied for 17th place at one-over-par 217. Luth shot a pair of 72's on Monday and finished with a 73 today.

The Vikings will be back in action on Oct. 7-8 when CSU competes at the Cincinnati Bearcat Invitational.
